Foot Under Glass
I was working the Information/Reference Desk one evening with the head
Ref. librarian. We had a very agitated student come to desk wanting to
see Black's Law Dictionary. We keep the most recent edition at the Ref.
Desk because it's an expensive book. He said he needed to check it out.
We told him there were older copies in the main stacks he could check out
but he said they didn't have definitions of the terms he needed; one of
them was harassment. He said if we didn't let him check out the newest
edition he would have it subpoenaed!
After much arguing the librarian said
he could have the book overnight but that he had to bring it back first
thing in the morning. As he left he kicked his foot through the front
door and shattered the glass. The staff at the Circulation Dept. handle
such problems and they let him walk away! He told them it was an accident
that his arms were full and he tried to push the door open with his foot.
I told them I had seen him do it, he never even tried opening the door
with his hand. I couldn't believe it!
